Are you ready for Thanksgiving yet?? The Thanksgiving Story and centerpiece idea!

I think a great way to remember what Thanksgiving means is to do some research before your family celebration. Since Thanksgiving is only about four months away, this means you have little time to plan, but you can do it if you try!!! Thanksgiving is when Columbus sailed to the United States because people heard there was a bunch of land for farming and the Constitution said they could be free. So they came and got in their wagons and spread out all over the country which is how we have people living in so many places today like Philadelphia, Miami and Los Angeles. Pretty amazing right? That took lots of guts.

On the first anniversary of landing at the United States, all the pilgrims wrote to each other and decided to hold the first Thanksgiving to be thankful for all their land and freedom. So they all ate dinner at the same time all across the country. It was important for them to invite the native people to their dinners because God says to love thy neighbor. And the native people brought them corn and meat and pumpkins and showed them how to make the most delicious corn. But some of the pilgrims (probably in Los Angeles or something!) weren't very kind and basically they pushed the native people aside and didn't let them eat with them in their log cabins because they didn't wear enough clothes. And then those pilgrims killed the native people and stole all their land to make their own corn and meat and pumpkins and it was horrible.

I found this beautiful statue the other day and I am going to use him in my centerpiece this year. I will probably surround him with a nice floral wreath and maybe some tea lights. Even though he is missing his hands, I thought it was a perfect symbol about how those pilgrims cut off the hands that were trying to feed them and we should all remember that on Thanksgiving now and forever. Amen.

Ummm ... I'm sorry but, no pilgrims STOLE any land. The Lord GAVE it to them, because the natives weren't doing anything at all with it and the Lord rewards hard workers. You seem like a really nice person, but I think you need to read a history book. I'm just saying. I'll pray for you!
